It's been way to long since I last posted anything on the blog and I apologize for the long hiatus, but we're back to business. Tons has happened since I last posted a "real" post so ill try to give the Coles Notes version. Since moving to our new home on Avenue Road, the shop has been very busy and that is a big reason why we haven't been able to post any fun updates on the blog. Our Grand Re-opening in August was a massive success and we would like to thank everyone who came out for the support. We have been hard at work testing out new flavours for the coming months so stay tuned for some tasty updates (there have been whispers of a man cake around the shop). We have had some really fun orders the last few months (see pics above) and the ideas just keep coming.

Halloween is almost upon us so don't forget to place your order for some tasty treats (Pumpkin Spice maybe??), and if you forget to place an order, you can always pop in to the shop and pickup some Halloween themed cupcakes which will be here all week. We will be open on October 31st for regular business hours too. With the extra elbow room that we have, we now have room for tons of fun cupcake merchandise ranging from tiers to tea sets to necklaces (pictures coming soon). Our sprinkles are such a big hit that we hope to release them in a variety of different flavours in the next few months. I see that I have crammed a ton of information into this post so ill save some for the next post. Don't forget that this is your last week to try our Pumpkin Spice cupcake with Cream Cheese frosting because once November comes, we shift into Christmas mode with our Gingerbread Cupcake(so excited).

Its been a while since I've put down a post with an update about the store. We've been so busy lately and I just haven't had time for anything other than cupcakes but I have a few minutes today so I figured I would let everyone know what we at Short & Sweet Cupcakes are up to. With mothers day around the corner, we have a very special sweet treat that you can order for mom/wifey to show her how much you care. Everyone knows you cant go wrong with a box of bite-size deliciousness!

Our COLOSSAL cupcakes have been a huge hit since we started offering them last month. They come in red velvet, chocolate and vanilla, covered in mountains of frosting, and tons of fun decorations. Our flavor of the month, Orange Chocolate Chip, has been flying off the shelves and since we decided to add Salted Caramel to our regular menu, its become the coolest kid on the block. Anyways, that's just some of whats going on in our little bake shop and I figured I would leave you with a little taste of paradise in honour of the beautiful weather the last few days. Playdate 2010: Therapeutic Clown Program at SickKids

The Therapeutic Clown Program at SickKids provides patients and families with therapeutic clown care, using spontaneous humour and gentle play to minimize stress during hospitalization and treatment. On Friday October 15, 2010, they are hosting their annual Playdate event so come out and join us in support of the cause.

Its been too long since my last post, but the store has been flooded with orders for weddings. I figured it would be appropriate to post pictures of 2 different wedding tiers we did for a couple weddings recently. The bride who came to us for the first wedding wanted 5 towers to be set up with double chocolate and vanilla cupcakes topped with sugar Calla Lilies. It looked absolutely elegant and she was extremely happy. The other bride had to have our Oh La La (red velvet) cupcakes with a red velvet cake on top for cutting. Im getting a sugar rush just typing it so im gonna get back to work.

Coolest Office Party Ever!

This week, we had quite the large order for a corporate event. Bombardier (like the sea doo's) was having an event a couple of days ago and they wanted cupcakes for their circus themed event but they also wanted the BOMBARDIER logo on each cupcake. No Problemo! These guys know how to throw a party; tents, candy, carnival attractions and CUPCAKES!!

Crazy Customs!

I know this post is long overdue and I apologize and promise to post more often. So much has been going on around here with weddings, graduations, birthdays and all the other events that we have been catering. The past 2 months have been filled with some awesome requests and special orders. Wedding season is upon us and cupcakes are a hot commodity. Also, Philter Communications (an advertising agency) that works with Canadian Tire had us make some "congratulations" cupcakes w/ the Canadian Tire and Philter Comm logos. I will upload more photos from another event we did a few days ago and post them later today.

I'm in Trouble!

So as predicted, I woke up the whole house the other night while testing out my new flavour. I know its not the best time to bake but I couldn't go to sleep without at least giving it one shot. You will all be delighted to know that one shot was all I needed. Just in time for this beautiful weather, our new Lemonberry cupcake! It has a moist lemon flavoured cupcake with a raspberry butter cream but as you all know, we don't use fake raspberry flavouring (that's not how we roll). With every bite, you get a refreshing lemon taste with little raspberry bits floating in the butter cream. It kind of tastes like a smoothy :). Now, for another new flavour that I decided would be kept a secret until now is the Banana Pineapple Coconut cupcake with cream cheese frosting. If that's too much of a mouth full, you can just call it Bahama Mama. You can probably guess what every bite of that one feels like. Last but not least, We had a bachelorette party that wanted some girls night out cupcakes and what better inspiration than Sex and the City. Anyways, its late and I gotta be up early and ready to bake; there is a breast cancer awareness event at Westmount Collegiate that we support tomorrow and they are selling pink ribbon cupcakes to raise money for a major charity to help in the fight against breast cancer.

Small Cakes Beat Small Talk!

After a crazy busy few weeks,with the olympics and all (GO CANADA!), I finally had a somewhat quiet tuesday to myself at the store. I decided that after I finish baking and trying out some new recipes, ill check some e-mails and get some "paper work" done. To my surprise, my usual inbox with 2 or 3 new messages was suddenly at around 15 new messages. Turns out the SweetSpot on Toronto.com had a spot on us on the site and it just so happens that a bunch of people saw the article. I was really excited because not only was this our first legitimate "media exposure", it was such a positive review that orders and new customers poured in the following weekend.This led to an email from an even design company called inbloom even design asking if they could come in and sample some cupcakes and take some pics for there blog. I said of course because who wouldnt love a little bit of free publicity;). Joelle from inbloom and a friend of hers came in, took some great pictures and enjoyed a few of our cupcakes in the process. First, we had the Blue Devils come in and place a special order for their soccer coach's birthday which was really exciting for us because they basically gave us freedom to create what we thought would look cool. The end result turned out better than we could imagine. Shortly after we received that order, we had a bat-mitzvah girl come in with her mom. She wanted what any girl would want for her special day-chocolate and Tiffany's, so we made her chocolate cupcakes with chocolate/ Tiffany Blue buttercream, and silver beads. Lastly, we had a little girl come in with her mom and she was having a High School Musical birthday bash so we all looked at each other and said, "basketballs and musical notes" (duh). Anyways, those were just some of the exciting custom requests we got this past week. Stay tuned for pictures of out upcoming wedding arrangements and special cupcake cakes!!

If you cant make it in to the store to pick up your order for that special someone on Valentines day, we can have it delivered!
